Russia’s legendary weapons manufacturer has opened a gift shop at Moscow’s largest airport, Sheremetyevo, selling realistic model automatic pistols and rifles as well as camouflage gear.
The Kalashnikov brand store also offers pens, hats, bags, umbrellas and “I love AK” T-shirts to passengers.
The shop, launched by the producer of the
renowned AK-47 assault rifle, is located in the rail-link sector of the airport.
The gunmaker aims to provide tourists leaving Russia with the opportunity to take away a souvenir with the company brand.
“Kalashnikov is one of the most popular brands that come to mind for most people in the world when they hear about Russia,” said Kalashnikov’s head of marketing, Vladimir Dmitriev, in a press release.
Kalashnikov’s flagship product, the AK-47, was the first assault rifle introduced by the
manufacturer in 1948. The rifle has acquired an iconic status thanks to its low input costs and reliability in extreme conditions. The AK-47, also produced under license outside Russia, is still one of the most popular rifles in the world.
